God is real.
Jesus is real.
Holy Spirit is real.
What We Do Now for the Homeless
We are taking prayer and simple meals out to the homeless in downtown Nashville in the belief that God has a plan for everyone and doesn’t want anyone left out of His Kingdom. He cares for the poor and the marginalized, and He wants to take care of everyone.
Bringing prayer and simple food out downtown is bringing blessings to homeless people in Nashville and to those of us doing the work, as well.
We started at the end of April, 2020, at the beginning of the Coronavirus lockdown, and ministered to those who may have felt forgotten and abandoned by the stay-at-home orders. Two years later, we have given out 10,000 simple meals, along with hot coffee, cold milk, and water, to people on the street. We have given out Bibles and formed friendships and intentional, caring connections with every step of this mission.
We have helped fulfill clothing and other personal item needs. We have contacted housing programs and a vocational ministry, family members and more for people. We have provided bus fare, we have called 911 when medical attention was needed, and we have paid for prescription medication.
When the holiday season started last year, we wanted to share the joy and thanksgiving of the season. From Thanksgiving through New Year’s, we made four complete holiday turkey dinners with traditional, homemade side-dishes, from mashed potatoes and gravy and dressing to sweet potatoes and green beans and cranberry sauce, with pumpkin pie for dessert, and took them out to the homeless downtown.
Most importantly of all, we have prayed with each and every person who says, “Yes!” to prayer each time we go out. We have asked God to answer our calls, and we have asked Him to lead the way. He has, and He does.
We believe that everyone in the United States of America gets to live in housing, and we believe that we as a whole have the resources to make that happen.
In Your Name, Jesus, we pray. Amen.
What we do now for the hungry
We deliver food to people in the belief that God provides basic needs for everyone. We believe that He created the abundance of the earth to be our Godly inheritance, and that He calls everyone to Him through His Son, Jesus Christ.
We feel the Love of Jesus Christ freely offered to everyone, and in delivering free food and milk to people, we feel that Love of Jesus working through us, through our very hands and feet, and even more so, through our hearts and minds and souls and spirits. It’s a blessing, to be sure!
During the Coronavirus lockdown, we hand-delivered 2,000 food boxes plus gallons of milk
to the doors of people in need: the elderly, the disabled, the terminally ill, people who lost their jobs due to the pandemic, the poor and the poor without transportation.
These food boxes came in two categories: the Second Harvest Emergency Food Boxes and the Farmers to Families Food Boxes.
The Second Harvest EFB’s were small boxes of shelf-stable canned, boxed, and dried goods designed to feed a small family for two to three days. They contained canned tuna and canned chicken, soups and stews and chilis, pasta and pasta sauce, rice and beans, vegetables and fruit, snacks, and boxed milk or juice.
The Farmers to Families food boxes were large, fresh produce boxes that contained 30 pounds or more of first-quality fresh vegetables and fruit, always including potatoes, onions, carrots and apples, along with five pounds of prepared meat and two pounds of cheese, along with yogurt or cottage cheese or sour cream, and delivered with gallons of milk. These food boxes were great!
We also coordinated two semi-trucks of Farmers to Families food boxes and milk, with 900 food boxes and 400 cases of four gallons of milk each, and we helped to distribute the food and milk from those drop-off points.
When food boxes weren’t at hand, we bought groceries weekly for the elderly and the terminally ill. And we made weekly meals that would last for days and delivered them.
We also took Christmas dinner on Christmas day to the elderly, the disabled, and the poor, who we knew would not be able to have a dinner of their own.
As always, we distribute and deliver the food and milk with prayer and asking God to bless His people with their basic needs fulfilled. We see His transformative work in everyone even through the simple task of delivering food that helps families get through their week.
Right now, we are in the process of planning to distribute more free food boxes in Nashville. We are partnering with the right people, and we are looking to fundraise to provide people who are most in need with the most basic need, being able to eat, for free.
In Your Name, Jesus, we pray. Amen.
